Summer Workshops 2026

« Spanning the Generations »
Celebrating 30th Anniversary of Normandy studio.  In addition to the festival 1 and 2 August, we freely and creatively plan additional informal presentations throughout the workshops with the first participants of the 4th decade at La Perrotiere.  We will also plan open stage (scène ouverte) for audience and visitors.
Workshop main language is in English, with translation in French/Japanese depending on participants.

• “Week 1” Foundation: 12 to 16 July 2026
• “Week 2” Development:  19 to 23 July
• “Week 3” Laboratory Sound & Corporal Status / Performance:  26 July to 2 August 2026 (Performance 1 & 2 August)
Invited artist for “Week 3”: Lê Quan Ninh, percussion.  Lê Quan Ninh

• “Week 4”  Wholeness: Special workshop through Feldenkrais • Qi Gong •  Dance   3 – 7 August

[Each week can be attended separately.   However, for participation in Week 3, we strongly recommend (especially for those who have never worked with Moeno Wakamatsu), to take at least one week before.  To start from Week 3 is possible but challenging —  please ask in advance.  Week 1, 2 and 4 — no previous experience necessary.]

Week 1 Foundation:
We study from different directions — perception, sensation, imagery, inside, outside, to connect, to center and ground, to circuit, to evoke and invoke, to transmit— at different level of physicality, emotionality — energy, consciousness, and spirit. We build the foundation, the base, to support the intentions, imaginations, desire of ourselves and of the world.

Week 2 Development:
Acquiring further concrete sense of how different elements we entered in Week 1 feel, connect, move, transfer.
Learning awareness of space, between presences and audience.  Circulating presence through space and time and audience.   Synching the mind to the body, to now.  Sensing what is desire that arises — emergence of your own world.

Week 3 Laboratory • Sound & Corporal Status:
Exploring all the elements we sedimented in the first 2 weeks to experience what is improvisation in the sense of clarity of reality, as manifestation of inevitable — the act of non-doing.
Joined by percussionist Lê Quan Ninh
Presence of Lê Quan Ninh will be confirmed only when minimum 6 people have registered.  Open for dancers.   Musician participation is only for those who have previously participated.

Weekend Performance at the end of Week 3.

Week 4. Wholeness: Special workshop through Feldenkrais • Qi Gong •  Dance. For non-dancers, dancers, bodyworkers — open to all.  Even if you are not interested in dance, this workshop will be valuable to elevate the consciousness and health. For dancers, we practice a very profound basis of dance — understanding dance as nuance and circulation at the energetic level.  For bodyworkers, you will find a new clarity of connection how you sense your clients and what they need.
The class is mostly somatic and energy practice, and bringing this at the end of the day to a dance — not dance in the normal sense, but in the sense of an effortless, free experience of imagination, feelings, spirit, and body.

Costs and details of workshops will be prepared in March, and it will be in the link “Information & registration”.  Costs will be similar to 2025, and you could view this as an example in last year’s Application Form link.    https://forms.gle/cZkNeZ1SSfaJJHuS7  For information only.  Please do not make application for 2026 on 2025 form.

La Maison du Butoh Blanc, Normandy

«La Maison du Butoh Blanc» was a name that Masaki Iwana, a butoh artist and film director (1945 – 2020 – www.iwanabutoh.com ), gave to his artistic world.  His studio was at his residence in Normandy, France — now called La Salle de Danse La Perrotiere.  However, friends still continue to call the place «La Maison du Butoh Blanc» in fond memory of Masaki Iwana.     An association for the arts was also created in the same name, «Association La Maison du Butoh Blanc» in his legacy.
